Crystal Vision for Life: Your Guide to Lens Care

If you have recently reglazed your spectacles (well done!) you might be wondering about how to keep your new lenses clean and damage-free. To ensure your new lenses remain pristine and provide optimal vision for years to come, we’ve compiled this short guide on proper lens care. By following these simple steps, you can keep your lenses looking their best and safeguard your investment.

Cleaning Care

Use Microfibre Cloths: This lint-free hero should be your everyday cleaning companion. It gently removes dust, fingerprints, and smudges without scratching the delicate lens surface. Avoid using tissues, paper towels, or even your clothing, as these can leave tiny abrasive particles that can damage the lenses over time.

Water and Mild Dish Soap (Diluted): For a deeper clean, rinse your glasses under lukewarm water. Use a small drop of lotion-free dish soap diluted in water to remove stubborn grime. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and pat them dry with your microfibre cloth.

Cleaning Sprays: Consider investing in a lens cleaning spray specifically formulated for eyeglasses. These solutions often contain anti-static properties to prevent dust from clinging to the lenses. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application and drying.

Protect from Damage

Beware of Harsh Chemicals: Avoid using household cleaners, solvents, or even window cleaners on your lenses! (yes – we’ve seen it all!). These can damage the lens coatings or even the lenses themselves. Lenses are precision-engineered and often feature multiple layers of advanced coatings that provide features like scratch resistance, UV protection, and anti-reflective properties. Stick to the gentle methods mentioned above to avoid damage.

Heat: Extreme heat can warp or damage lens coatings. Avoid leaving your glasses near a heat source like a fire or on top of a radiator.

Storage is Key: When you’re not wearing your glasses, store them safely in a sturdy case. This protects them from scratches, crushing, and getting lost in the abyss of your bag.

Lens Up – Always: Develop the habit of placing your glasses lens-side up on a clean surface. This minimises the risk of scratches from accidental contact.

If you follow these easy tips you will extend the life of your new lenses and have perfect vision for longer. The team at Lenses in Glasses are here to help you so if you need further clarification on lens care, get in touch.
